Vocational Opportunities at Hutchinson Community College

SHS students have access to complete college courses as a high school student. Juniors and Seniors on track for graduation with a good attendance and GPA can apply. Students leave at 7:00 a.m. and return at 11:30 a.m. Students receive HS and college credit and still return for 4 classes in the afternoon. Tuition is free through the Senate Bill 155 Program. Below are the programs available:

  • Auto Body/Collision Repair
  • Automotive Technology
  • Cosmetology – senior year only
  • Machine Technology
  • Residential Construction Technology
  • Welding Technology

Dual Credit Courses Through Sterling College

Sophomore, junior, and senior students have the option to take dual credit college courses that count towards HS and college credit. Students (in good academic standing) only need to apply for admissions and complete a form  to be able to take these courses for college credit. The cost is $75 per credit hour (or $225 for a 3 hour class) through Sterling College. Below are the courses available:

  • Advanced Biology – 4 credits (Junior or Senior year)
  • American History – 3 credits (Junior year)
  • American Government – 3 credits (Senior year)
  • Anatomy & Physiology – 4 credits (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year)
  • Calculus – 5 credits (Junior or Senior year)
  • College Algebra – 3 credits (Senior year)
  • English Comp I – 3 credits (Senior year)
  • Introduction to Business – 3 credits (Junior or Senior year) – through HCC
  • Psychology – 3 credits (Junior or Senior year)
  • Small Business Accounting – 3 credits (Junior or Senior year) – through HCC
  • Speech – 3 credits (Junior or Senior year)

Senate Bill 155

Kansas Senate Bill 155 provides payment of tuition for high school students for designated Career & Technical Education (CTE) classes. The student will be responsible for paying course specific fees and book charges. Juniors and Seniors (in good standing) have the ability to take online CTE courses for free (as well as over the summer). Your online class can be scheduled as one of your classes for the semester. Mrs. Wohler will work with each student to ensure the courses transfer to colleges you want to attend prior to enrolling in the courses. Below are some of the courses available:
